Sweeney, Mitchell power Tigers past Union

The Hopkinsville Tigers evened their baseball record at 1-1 on the season as they defeated visiting Union County 11-1 in six innings on Tuesday night.

Dylan Sweeney led the Tigers’ offensive attack with three hits. Chase Fort and Jayden Kellum also picked up a pair of hits for the Tigers.

Layton Lindsey drove in three runs for Hopkinsville.

Hoptown plated three runs in the bottom of the first and that was plenty of run support for Gavin Mitchell, who earned the pitching win. The right-hander only allowed three hits and struck out seven.

Leading 5-1, Hopkinsville struck for six runs in the bottom of the sixth to end the game. The Tigers used a pair of hits and four walks in the frame.

The Tigers are scheduled to return to action Thursday night at Logan County.
