Tiger runners complete season at Class 2-A meet

Hopkinsville High School’s girls’ cross country team completed one of its most successful seasons in recent memory Saturday at the 2024 Kentucky Beef Council Cross Country State Championships at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington.

The Lady Tigers had two runners earn top-50 spots in the Class 2-A championship and the team took ninth place.

Lauren Mayes finished 18th overall with a time of 21:06.19. Alexis Herrera-Lovato had one of her best races of the year and finished 46th in a time of 22:20.19.

Kaydon Coats took 91st with a time of 23:47.20 and Evelyn Bangart finished in 24:14.06, which was 103rd overall. Rebecca Wood (124, 24:48.97), Amerah Acree (185, 28:19.75) and Luanna Acree (199, 29:12.56) also ran for the Lady Tigers.

Lexington Catholic’s Caroline Beiting won the individual championship in Class 2-A with a time of 18:27.19. Lexington Catholic won the team title with 44 points, followed by Bourbon County (114) and Harlan County (121).

In the boys’ Class 2-A championship race, Hoptown’s Tyson Cavinder completed the course in 36th place. He had a time of 17:49.44.

Thomas Nelson’s Riku Sugle won the boys’ Class 2-A race in a time of 15:22.46. Covington Catholic won the team championship with 51 points, followed by Bourbon County (69) and Lexington Catholic (121).
