One look at the South Warren Spartans and it is obvious they are loaded with talent and could be a team that will challenge for the Class 6-A state title this fall.
The Spartans will be the Hopkinsville Tigers’ challenge tonight as the two teams meet at 7 p.m. at the Stadium of Champions.
South Warren (4-0) is ranked No. 6 overall in the state by Maxpreps.com, and No. 3 in Class 6-A by Bluegrasspreps.com. They are coached by former Boyle County star Brandon Smith, the son of legendary Boyle coach Chuck Smith, who is on the Spartans’ staff.
Hoptown Coach Dustin Lopez said he is impressed with what he has seen on film from South Warren.
The Spartans are 4-0 and are coming off a 45-14 win over Bowling Green last weekend. They also have impressive wins over Bryan Station (56-35), Dupont Manual (27-17), and Greenwood (33-19).
Lopez, whose team rolled up 470 yards last week, including 379 through the air, said his team cannot be one-dimensional if it wants to have success tonight.
The Tigers enter tonight’s game 3-1 and have won two straight games.
Airtime for the pregame show is set for 6:30 p.m. on Newsradio 99.3 FM and 1230 AM WHOP.
