The Hopkinsville Tigers’ football team will take the field for its final regular season game all-time tonight and the opponent will be a new one.
W.E.B. Dubois invades the Stadium of Champions to take on the Tigers at 7 p.m. It will be the first and only time the two teams will meet in the history of the series.
The Lions enter the game at 4-5 and are coming off a 42-8 win over Louisville Shawnee last week. Hopkinsville is 5-4 and is coming off a 48-13 win over cross-town rival Christian County a week ago. Tonight’s game is senior night for the Tigers.
Hoptown Head Coach Dustin Lopez said his team has to be able to run the ball on offense and play solid defense to pick up a win tonight.
The Lions are led on offense by quarterback Brian Dickerson Jr., who has thrown for nearly 1,500 yards and 18 touchdowns this season. They also have three running backs with more than 200 yards rushing this season. Devin High and Rashad High have combined for more than 750 yards rushing and 13 touchdowns.
Hopkinsville counters with senior James Bradley Jr., who has rushed 1,012 yards and 17 touchdowns. Sophomore quarterback Jasiah McCarley has thrown for 1,611 yards and 16 touchdowns. His favorite target is senior wide receiver Aiden Jesse, who has caught 29 passes for 566 yards and seven touchdowns. Junior Tremayne Clay also poses a matchup problem for the Lions. Clay has caught 19 passes for 506 yards and six touchdowns.
Airtime for tonight’s game is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Newsradio 99.3 FM and 1230 AM WHOP.
