Tigers shake off slow start, run past Todd Central

Over the weekend, the Hopkinsville Tigers improved to 4-1 on the season as they shook off a cold-shooting first quarter to rout Todd County Central 92-59 in a boys’ basketball game Saturday night.

The win came in the final game of the Toyota of Hopkinsville Holiday Classic at Tiger Gym on Saturday.

Hoptown placed five players in double figures led by Jonovan Leavell’s 24 points. Jayven Battle added 16 points. Jayon Bass provided 14 and James Bradley Jr. and Curtis Dillard each added 11.

Hoptown needed a late three-pointer to take a 19-16 lead after one quarter. But the Tigers outscored the Rebels 35-18 in the second quarter to grab a 54-34 halftime advantage.

Connor Holder led Todd Central with 22 points and Hunter Johnson added 14.

The Tigers are back in action Tuesday night at Webster County. The game can be heard at 7:15 p.m. on Newsradio 99.3 FM and 1230 AM WHOP.
