Tigers thump Northeast, fall to Tilghman in grid scrimmages

The Hopkinsville Tigers found their offense against their second opponent in Friday’s football scrimmage at the Stadium of Champions.

Jay Bradley Jr. ran for two touchdowns and threw for two more and the Tigers rolled past Clarksville Northeast 28-7 in a 30-minute game.

Bradley’s scoring came on runs of 34 and 38 yards. The first scoring run saw him break multiple tackles on his way to the end zone.

The Tigers’ signal-caller threw a 70-yard pass to Aiden Jesse on the first play of their second possession and an 18-yard scoring toss to Jesse after Hoptown’s Jordan Catlett had picked up an Eagles fumble.

Hopkinsville’s offense rolled up 233 yards in the scrimmage, which saw the clock set at 30 minutes and run continuously. Meanwhile, the Tigers’ defense held the Eagles to 68 yards and sacked the Northeast quarterback five times.

Hoptown’s opening scrimmage was against defending Class 4-A state champion Paducah Tilghman, who looked as though it will be a state championship contender again this season.

The Blue Tornado defeated the Tigers 21-0 in a two-quarter game and held the Hopkinsville offense to only 36 total yards.

Meanwhile, the Blue Tornado scored on its first two possessions on a 3-yard run and a 2-yard run that capped off long drives.

Paducah added a 24-yard touchdown pass on its fourth possession.

The Blue Tornado also played Northeast in a two-quarter scrimmage and won 35-0.

Friday night’s scrimmages were part of the final Hopkinsville High School Fall “Meet the Tigers” night.
