With less than a week before the spring baseball and softball season set to begin, both University Heights Academy and Heritage Christian Academy have pulled the plug on their varsity softball programs for the 2026 season.
UHA Athletics Director Taylor Sparks said Monday that the school did not have enough interest among high school players to be able to field a team, despite making a desperate attempt to field a team. Sparks pointed out that there is a strong middle school group of players and the school looked forward to starting its varsity program back in a few years.
Meanwhile, HCA athletics officials told WHOP last week that the Lady Warriors’ varsity softball program also would be halted for the 2026 season.
HCA also has a strong group of middle school players and should be able to field a varsity team in the coming years.
Without UHA and HCA, only Christian County, Hopkinsville, and Fort Campbell will play varsity softball this season. The Lady Tigers are re-starting their varsity program this season after missing last season due to lack of interest by students.
