UHA runners compete at state Class 1-A Meet

University Heights Academy’s 4×400-meter relay team narrowly missed a state championship on Thursday in the KHSAA Class 1-A State Track and Field Meet in Lexington.

The team of Clayton Lester, Griffin McCoy, Harlow Hampton, and Logan Miller set a new school record with a time of 3:27.25 to finish second place. Louisville Collegiate broke the tape less than a second ahead of the Blazers.

Meanwhile, McCoy earned a pair of medals as the senior finished seventh in the 200-meter dash in 22.57 seconds and eighth in the 100-meter dash in 11.20 seconds.

The Blazers’ 4×200-meter relay team also medaled as McCoy, Hampton, Miller, and Lester took sixth place in 1:31.94.

UHA’s 4×800 meter relay team narrowly missed medaling as it took ninth in 8:41.40. That team was made up of Zech Davis, Cole Glover, Harlow Hampton, and Graham Conrad.

Logan Miller finished ninth in the 300-meter hurdles in 42.56 seconds and he was 10th in the 110-meter high hurdles in 15.82 seconds. Glover finished 14th in the 1,600-meter run in 4:54.46.

The Blazers finished 20th as a team with 14 points in the meet, which was won by Louisville Collegiate with 53 points. Williamsburg was second with 46 and Bethlehem was third with 34.5.

Meanwhile, the Lady Blazers’ Ajae Oatts barely missed the podium as she took ninth in the 200-meter dash in 26.84 seconds.

The Lady Blazers’ 4×200-meter relay team also was ninth in 1:50.64. That team included Emma Dill, Oatts, Palin Hampton, and Kendall Hancock.

Dill finished 12th in the 300-meter hurdles in a time of 50.89 seconds.

UHA’s 4×400-meter relay team of Dill, Hancock, Oatts, and Amoree Owens finished 14th in 4:28.42 and the 4×100-meter relay team of Aliviah Acree, Harper Bolinger, Owens, and Palin Hampton took 20th in 54.50.

Lexington Christian won the girls’ meet with 117 points, followed by Bishop Brossart with 97 and Beechwood with 57.
