Wade honors family with Boys and Girls Club gym renovation

Former Hopkinsville High School basketball star Tommy Wade officially dedicated the renovated gym at the Hopkinsville Boys and Girls Club to his father and mother, Tom and Wanda Wade, on Wednesday afternoon.

Tommy Wade, who recently retired from a long college assistant coaching career, said his parents loved the community and he wanted to honor them by helping the Boys and Girls Club with a renovated gym named for them.

The renovation includes a new orange and black gym floor, chairs, a scoreboard, goals and backboards and a display case that honors his parents and Hopkinsville High School.

Wade said his parents went to the old Hopkinsville High School that was located at the current location of the Boys and Girls Club and their sacrifice for him led Wade to want to do something to honor them.

Terrence Davis, the Executive Director of the Hopkinsville Boys and Girls Club, said the club has been hoping to renovate the gym for 15 years, but until Wade came in and asked for a tour in January, the project had not had a perfect partner.

Wade also emphasized his commitment to the Boys and Girls Club with his “ten toes in” promise.

Wade said a display case in the gym will include a Hopkinsville High School basketball jersey, football, cheerleading uniform, and a photo of his parents, Tom and Wanda Wade.
