101st welcomes home soldiers, bids farewell to outgoing brigadier generals in ceremony

It was a day of ceremony on Fort Campbell on Tuesday, as they welcomed home soldiers who were returning from the Southern Border and bid farewell to outgoing Deputy Commanding Officer Brigadier General Travis McIntosh.

The 101st Airborne Division hosted a ceremony uncasing the division colors at the Wings of Liberty museum, following its redeployment in support of the Joint Task Force at the Southern Boarder. The division headquarters was the head of operations for that mission, and the uncasing ceremony represented the completed mission of the unit.

Major General David Gardner says, “We were responsible for all 1,954 miles of the southern border, from Imperial Beach, San Diego all the way to the Gulf of America. It was incredible work by the

Border Patrol, incredible work by all the service members of every single service. It’s a mission

that we’re proud of, and it is great to be back.”

Along with that, an “Honor Eagle” ceremony was held bidding farewell to Brigadier General Travis McIntosh, who is set to depart Fort Campbell and head on to a new assignment as the Deputy Director for Regional Operations, Joint Staff, at the Pentagon.

They also bid farewell to Brigadier General Joseph Katz, who now heads on to serve as the next Commandant of Cadets at West Point, the United States Military Academy in New York.

General McIntosh says, “What made this assignment so special is that our Soldiers and Families are supported by a community that understands and embraces that mission. I leave deeply grateful and am confident that the Screaming Eagles are prepared for whatever challenges lie ahead.”
