The Elkton Police Department is partnering with That Guy Who Fixes Stuff to host the first ever Todd County Toy Run and joyride on Saturday to benefit families in need during the holiday season.
Tara Greene the co-owner of That Guys Who Fixes Stuff says she and her fellow co-owner thought about doing a toy run after seeing all of residents who signed up for the Todd County School District Angel Tree program. Greene says the toy run will serve to benefit families that may not receive support from the Angel Tree program.
Greene says they contacted the City of Elkton regarding their idea and the police department shared that they were interested in partnering with them for the toy run. Megan Willenborg from the Elkton Police Department says they were happy to be able to be a part of something benefiting the county as a whole.
Although they are partnering with school district to benefit students in the county, Willenborg says they will also focus on providing gifts to children who live in the county, but may not be enrolled in the school system.
With the toy run their will be a joyride starting at the Hopkinsville Harbor Freight parking lot and concluding at the Milliken Memorial Community House. Greene says all vehicles are invited to participate in the joyride with the donation of an unwrapped gift valued at $20 or more.
As the joyride enters Elkton, Greene says they will be slowing down as they are escorted by Elkton Police and invites people to come and spectate and hints that some vehicles may be tossing treats to those watching.
At the Milliken Community House, Willenborg says at 11 a.m. on Saturday they will be hosting activities such as bingo, pictures with Santa Claus and a snow ball fight.
Along with the Toy Run, Greene says they will also be doing a car giveaway at the Milliken Community House.
The Toy Run starts at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday at the Hopkinsville Harbor Freight parking lot and those interested can enter with the donation of an unwrapped toy valued at $20 or $20 in cash. Toys can also be directly dropped off at the Milliken Community House on the day of the Toy Run.
The joyride will drive through Pembroke, Trenton, Guthrie and Allensville before concluding in Elkton.
