76th Rotary Auction gets underway today, looks to keep breaking records

After months of planning, item collecting, food preparation and so much more, the Rotary Club of Hopkinsville has taken over the War Memorial Building, as the 76th WHOP Rotary Radio Auction begins today.

It will run throughout the week, all the way through Saturday night, as Rotarians look to maintain their record-breaking fundraising efforts, and the auction gets underway at 6 p.m. tonight. There will be plenty to bid on, including impressive Big Board Items, and it can all be heard on 98.7 Lite FM—or online via the Hopkinsville Rotary Club Facebook page and website.

All money raised through the auction, along with the diner, the Hour and Goat Clubs, donations and more, will go to benefit the many scholarship programs and community outreach efforts done by the Rotary Club. Along with the steadfast Rotary Scholars Program, they also have the Rotary Impact program, which focuses on specific career paths, such as teaching.

Auction Chair Brett Pritchett appeared on WHOP recently, joined by Rotary Impact participant Jordan Poindexter, who took part in the program to pursue teaching. Prichett says this program helps set hopeful teachers on the path to success, helping them advance their education while helping keep teachers local.

Poindexter says attending Hopkinsville Community College as part of the program helped her be ready to transition to attending Murray State, and allowed her to begin teaching students of her own.

Poindexter says she’s always had a passion for teaching, but she’s also determined to give back into the community, with Pritchett saying that’s a vital part of Rotary’s mission.

The diner will be open for lunch each day from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. and then open for dinner from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. You can find more information on the festivities of the day by visiting the Hopkinsville Rotary Club Facebook page.
