A Hopkinsville man was been additionally charged following a traffic stop that occurred on July 3.
According to the Hopkinsville police report, a vehicle driven by 29-year-old Vontrae Lewis of Hopkinsville was stopped on July 3 and he was taken into custody at that time. Further investigation showed that the vehicle he had been driving had the WIN numbers altered or defaced. A hidden VIN was recovered and it was determined the vehicle was reported stolen out of Houston, Texas.
The vehicle had been rented via AVIS rental service by fraudulent means, though the identity of the original renter is currently unknown.
Lewis was additionally charged with felony receiving stolen property and obscuring the identity of a machine $10,000 or more.
