Thousands of Monarch Butterflies will be released into the wild at Oak Grove’s 16th annual Butterfly Festival in September and the Oak Grove Tourism Commission is inviting all nature enthusiasts and butterfly lovers.
Commission Executive Director, Traci Cunningham says this year’s festival will be bigger than ever and will feature a variety of activities for attendees of all ages.
The festival kicks off at 11 a.m. on September 7 and will include education sessions hosted by Christian County Master Gardeners about butterfly habits, migration patterns and conservation efforts. Attendees will also have a chance to get up close to the butterflies in the butterfly house which will include hundreds of butterflies and the plants they enjoy.
For children, there will be a Kid’s Corner featuring educational activities, face painting, arts and crafts, a petting zoo, train rides, a balloon artist, a bubble zone and a zipline.
To conclude the festival, 2,000 butterflies will be released and Cunningham says the release will be a breath-taking spectacle.
