Public Library invites the community to upcoming summer events

 As the school year approaches the Hopkinsville-Christian County Public Library is hosting events to help students prepare for school and enjoy the remainder of their summer.

Mari-Alice Jasper from the library appeared on WHOP and shared that the library has partnered with the Hopkinsville-Christian County Downtown Farmers Market for Library Night where kids can come and make pencil pouches and get some library goodies on Thursday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Thursday also kicks off the library’s End of Summer Book Sale which runs through Saturday. Jasper says shoppers can fill up a bag with books for $5.

On Thursday and Friday, the book sale runs from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Saturday the sale runs from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the library.

Then on Friday, Kentucky author, Brittany Thurman will be hosting a kid’s story time at the library and she will be reading from her new book, “Forever and Always.” Jasper says Thurman will also talk with kids about what it’s like being an author.

To get the community physically active, the library is hosting a fitness class on Saturday at 11 a.m. Jasper says they working on promoting physical literacy and they plan to partner with the Hopkinsville-Christian County YMCA to offer free yoga lessons.

Later next week, the library is set to be closed on August 23 and 24 as Summer Salute takes over downtown Hopkinsville. More information about the library and its upcoming events can be found at hccpl.org.
