Hopkinsville elects Republican newcomers to city council

The 2024 election results are in and Hopkinsville’s City Council is set to remain Republican but will be comprised of some newcomers.

A majority of city council’s races were won by unopposed candidates. Candidates Brandi Stallons for Ward Two, Donald Marsh for Ward Three, Amy Craig for Ward Five, Travis Martin for Ward Six, Clayton Sumner for Ward Seven, Seth Meek for Ward Eight and Jason Bell for Ward 11 were unopposed on the ballot.

The race for the Ward One Seat was a battle between Republican Vance Smith, Democrat Markeeta Oldham Wilkerson and incumbent write-in candidate Natasha Francis. Smith came out on top receiving 57.9% of the votes. Wilkerson received 41.1% of the votes and Francis received 9% of the votes.

The race for the Ward Nine Seat saw Republican Brittanie Bogard, Democrat Angelique Victor and Independent Duane Shepard face off on the ballot. Bogard won receiving 53.7% of the votes. Victor received 40.8% of the votes and Shepard received 5.4% of the votes.

After winning, Bogard said she was deeply humbled and grateful for the opportunity to serve her ward. Bogard thanked her daughters and her campaign managers for helping her attain the city council seat.

The race for the Ward 10 Seat was between Republican Mike Velez and Democrat Andra Gold and Velez was elected to the position receiving 56.3% of the votes.

After winning, Velez says he feels fantastic and is ready to represent his ward.

Lastly, the race for the Ward 12 Seat was between Republican Elizabeth Draude and Democrat Samual Goodman and Draude came out on top receiving 55.9% of the votes.

The newly elected city council members will be sworn in to their roles in January.
