Western State Hospital looking for public’s help to support Christmas events for residents

Western State Hospital is putting out the call for aid, as they begin their Christmas season to benefit the patients at Western State Nursing Facility.

According to a news release, a donation drive is underway to help provide gifts and essentials to residents during the holiday season, and help fund the Christmas activities the staff at the facility have planned.  One can donate in several ways, including by providing the gifts, making a monetary contribution or sponsoring a party for residents.

If donating items, they should be for men and women ages 18 and older, and suggested items include body wash, shampoo and conditioner, toothbrushes, deodorant, toothpaste, hand lotion, knit caps and gloves, playing cards, composition notebooks, crossword or word search booklets, sudoku puzzles and socks.

Monetary contributions would go towards purchasing additional gifts and special events and occasions.

A unit party is typically host to 15 patients and costs approximately $150 for purchase of refreshments and party favors.

The community’s support could help ensure that the holidays are bright for the patients and residents at Western State Hospital.
