November is National Adoption Month and Leslie Vass with the Kentucky Foster and Adoptive Parent Training Support Network appeared on WHOP News Radio on Monday to spotlight the children looking for their forever families.
The Network is a statewide organization composed of experienced foster and adoptive parents who provide support and training to new foster and adoptive parents.
Vass shared that she became a foster parent in 2018 and since then she has taken care of multiple children in the foster care system. Vass says the goal of the foster care system is to reunite children with their parents, however reunification was not possible for a pair of boys she was fostering so her family adopted them.
Vass says parents interested in fostering or adopting children can visit kyfaces.ky.gov which contains information about children who are looking for a foster family or a forever family.
On the website, parents can submit an inquiry regarding a child they may be interested in fostering or adopting. Before a family can foster or adopt, they have to undergo background checks, a home study and classes.
Vass says foster and adoptive families will receive support from the network which can include financial support, mentoring and supplies.
