Woman dies from injuries sustained in West 16th Street house fire

A woman has died from results of injuries sustained during a house fire on West 16th Street Monday afternoon.

The Hopkinsville Fire Department responded to the 500 block of West 16 around 1:30 p.m. for reports of a house fire, according to Captain Payton Rogers, who says crews arrived to find found fire coming from both of the upstairs windows. Bystanders informed firefighters that a woman was still inside.

They made quick entry into the home and found the victim, identified as 37-year-old Shatikia Brime by Christian County Deputy Coroner Christy Adams, in an upstairs bedroom. She was removed from the residence and CPR began—she was transported to Jennie Stuart Medical Center in critical condition. She would later succumb to her injuries.

The fire was contained to the second floor and extinguished. It is being investigated to try and determine a cause.
