Two killed, roadway closed for hours in Lyon County crash

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a multi-vehicle crash where two people were killed Monday evening.

According to the Lyon County Sheriff’s Department, multiple law enforcement agencies responded to the crash involving four vehicles near the 42-mile-marker of Interstate 24 in Lyon County. The wreck resulted in the deaths of 52-year-old Tara Rex of Hopkinsville and 42-year-old James Simmons of Paducah.

According to a report from Kentucky State Police, the pair were among five occupants in a car operated by 44-year-old Tiffany Anderson of Hopkinsville. Anderson was driving westbound on I-24 when she reportedly veered into the oncoming lane for an unknown reason.

Anderson reportedly sideswiped a truck and trailer before colliding with two other vehicles. Both Rex and Simmons were ejected from the car and were pronounced deceased at the scene.

The crash caused considerable back up of traffic, and conditions were complicated by slick roadways caused by snowfall.

The roadway was closed for nearly seven hours as officers investigated and for the roadway to be cleared.
