When the Kentucky General Assembly convenes in Frankfort for the 2025 short session, there will be several new committees and board chairs taking up their roles, and that includes for Representative Walker Thomas of Christian County.
Representative Thomas will now chair the Public Pension Oversight Committee and head the Budget Review of Personnel Public Retirement and Finance Board. He says that’s a big change from his previous appointment, but leadership wanted him to helm those boards that fall under the purview of Appropriations and Revenue.
The Public Pension Oversight Committee reviews any legislation that attempts to make changes to the pension system, which affects a large number of Kentuckians.
Thomas says he’s eager to work with his fellow legislators to keep the pension system as healthy as possible so it doesn’t slide back towards a crisis.
The session begins on January 7, and will go for 30 days—and there will be plenty for legislators to consider during that month, even without a budget on the agenda.
