While we may not have snow or ice in the forecast for this week, the cold temperatures will make it clear that winter is not budging.
There had been the possibility of another winter system making its way through the area this weekend, but now Meteorologist Justin Gibbs with the National Weather Service in Paducah says thanks to an uptick in temperatures set for that time frame, that threat has diminished, though he is expecting some rain.
It’s a cold start to the week, and then we will see a brief warm up starting Friday—with temperatures touching the 50’s—but don’t get used to it, because they’re set to plunge right back down next week.
And those temperatures look to stick around all the way into February, with Gibbs saying the long-range outlook is favoring below average temperatures, finishing off a very cold January.
After making it through two back-to-back winter storm events to start 2025, the next couple of weeks—at least at this time—appears to be calm and quiet on that front.
