Semi-truck fire shut down I-24 in Trigg County

A semi-truck that became fully engulfed in flames Tuesday night shut down Interstate 24 in Trigg County for some time.

It happened near the 68 mile-marker, according to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, who says both westbound lanes were closed as firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze. However, firefighters were faced with difficulty due to the extreme cold temperatures, which was causing the water used to the fight the fire to freeze quickly on the roadway.

Crews with the transportation cabinet assisted at the scene by applying sand and other ice-fighting chemicals.
