Police arrest Hopkinsville man following stolen car pursuit

Hopkinsville Police arrested 19-year-old Everett Hopkins of Hopkinsville on Monday after he reportedly fled from law enforcement in a stolen car.

According to a report, officers observed Hopkins driving a stolen vehicle on East 9th Street and initiated a traffic stop but instead of slowing down Hopkins fled. He turned onto 7th Street and reportedly picked up speed while weaving across both lanes of traffic.

Hopkins then reportedly disregarded a stop sign and drove into the oncoming traffic lane before failing to navigate a turn, instead driving into a grassy area. Hopkins got back onto the road and the pursuing officer reportedly performed a pit maneuver causing the car to come to a stop.

Hopkins and a juvenile passenger in the car then allegedly began to flee on foot. The passenger was apprehended and officers later went to Hopkins’ home where he was found and arrested.

Hopkins was charged with two counts of first-degree fleeing or evading police, first-degree criminal mischief, first-degree wanton endangerment, reckless driving, receiving stolen property, disregarding a stop sign and other traffic offenses.
