Murray State University has announced that Shannon Slate will serve as the new director of the Hopkinsville and Fort Campbell Regional campuses.
As a resident of Hopkinsville since 2016, Slate has been a part of the educational fabric of the Hopkinsville and Christian County community for nearly a decade. According to a news release, her professional experience will lend support to enrollment growth and educational opportunities for dual credit, transfer, military and non-traditional students throughout the service region.
Slate has been working as the western Kentucky Gifted and Talented Cadre Leader for the Department of Education, and has taught advanced placement social studies courses. In 2024, she was awarded Kentucky’s National History Day Patricia Behring Secondary Teacher of the Year.
She has a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree from Western Kentucky University.

I’m passionate about helping students advance their education while empowering the community to grow and thrive through accessible learning pathways. With this new role, I look forward to creating impactful opportunities that foster academic success and lifelong learning for all and provide a valuable talent pipeline for the professional community of Hopkinsville.”
