Atmos Energy gives some safety tips ahead of bitter cold

After the snow falls overnight into Wednesday morning across the region, it’s set to become bitterly cold—so Atmos Energy is giving some safety tips for those struggling to heat their homes.

According to a news release, officials with Atmos are urging folks to make sure external vents for dryers and other natural gas equipment are keep clear of ice and snow, as blocked vents could lead to a buildup of carbon monoxide.  Also, be sure to never use an oven or a gas stovetop to heat your home, and minimize the risk of frozen pipes by leaving faucets at a drip and opening cabinets to allow warm air to reach those pipes.

You can save on money and energy by setting your thermostat to 68 degrees during the day.
