Hopkinsville man charged in relation to East 1st Street shooting incident

A Hopkinsville man is facing numerous charges following investigation into a shots fired incident on October 2 on East First Street. 

According to the Hopkinsville police report, the shots fired call happened on East First Street October 2 around midnight, where a suspect used an assault-style weapon to shoot at an occupied residence, causing damage to the residence and a vehicle parked there. The suspect fled in a vehicle, hitting a fire hydrant, causing damage to both the hydrant and the vehicle. Officers located 14 spent shell casings at the scene. 

No one was injured in the incident.

The driver is alleged to have been 37-year-old Phillip Sanders of Hopkinsville. He was arrested Tuesday in Hopkinsville and allegedly had, 70 Buprenorphine strips, marijuana, a handgun and drug paraphernalia in his residence. 

He was arrested and charged with first-degree wanton endangerment, first-degree criminal mischief, leaving the scene of an accident, trafficking in a controlled substance, trafficking in marijuana and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
