Sen. Paul talks taxation, tariffs and trade

United States Senator Rand Paul is not pleased with tariffs set down by the President, and he spoke on the Senate Floor recently about the matter.

Calling tariffs essentially a ‘tax’ on the American people, Paul bucked at Congress not being included in the process, saying its against the Constitution for one person—in this case the President—being able to raise taxes on the citizens.  He specifically cited the “Emergency” clause on the tariffs and executive actions, saying an “emergency” shouldn’t be indefinite.

The senator says President Trump has cited concerns about Fentanyl and he certainly understands that worry, but he disagrees that the heart of the problem is coming from Canada.

Calling tariffs a “mistake”, Senator Paul says he hopes the President will reconsider certain matters concerning tariffs in the future, and bring Congress back into the process.

China is vowing to “fight to the end” after President Trump increased tariffs on products from that country to 125 percent.  The head of China’s largest e-commerce association says Chinese companies that sell products on Amazon are now preparing to either raise prices in the U.S. or quit the U.S. market.
