Princeton Police investigating assault at Walmart

The Princeton Police Department is investigating an assault that came as the result of a misunderstanding about a perceived child abduction. 

According to a news release, officers responded to Walmart around 6 p.m. for reports that an assault had occurred in the parking lot—investigation revealed that the victim was assaulted by a male suspect that then fled the scene. Further investigation revealed that the assault had taken place due to a misunderstanding about an alleged attempted child abduction.

In-store video was reviewed by officers, who determined there was no evidence of any attempted abduction, or any other type of criminal activity. 

Officers made contact with the suspect, 27-year-old Jerome Brown of Princeton, who was issued a citation for second-degree disorderly conduct and trespassed from the store. The assault investigation in ongoing.

The Princeton Police Department is urging citizens that if they believe a crime is being committed or attempted, to call law enforcement so a proper investigation can be conducted.
