KYTC warns about fraudulent tolls, texting scam

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is putting out the word—those texts you’ve been getting about failing to pay a toll are a scam.

According to a news release, scammers are sending fraudulent text messages impersonating tolling agencies, which feature a suspicious link that resembles the one that takes you to the Kentucky licensing website address.

The scam messages warn customers of unpaid tolls, and indicate fees will be incurred if payment is not sent immediately. These are false.

Officials are saying if you get these messages, absolutely do not click the link, even if you think it resembles a website you may know. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet will never send text messages to collect tolls, and they’re working to have the fraudulent websites taken down.

If you have provided any personal information, contact your bank immediately.

You can also forward the suspicious message to 7726 (SPAM) to alert your mobile provider as well.
