Extended heatwave to impact the region starting Saturday

Now that the storms and heavy rain have moved out of our area, Mother Nature is going to turn up the heat, with folks warned about an extended heatwave starting Saturday.

Starting on Saturday, pretty much the whole of western Kentucky will likely see temperatures reach the mid-90’s—and that’s just what’s on the thermometer, as the humidity will push the heat index values up into the triple digits, with peak values between 100 degrees and 107 degrees possible.

The heatwave is expected to linger through Wednesday of next week, and the National Weather Service in Paducah says the odds of them issuing a heat-related advisory are likely.

If you must be out during this heatwave, remember to take frequent breaks in shade—or even better, in air conditioning—where light-colored, loose-fitting clothing, check on animals and neighbors, and most importantly, stay hydrated.

Keep water constantly available for outdoor animals and make sure they access to shade that isn’t an enclosed space. And never leave a child or a pet in a car alone for any length of time, as temperatures can quickly become fatal inside.
