If you were in downtown Hopkinsville Friday night or Saturday afternoon, then you heard the music and smelled the delicious eats being cooked up at Founders Square.
And hopefully you stopped by, because there was plenty of food on hand to try at the Taste of the Town Food Festival, which was the place to be as they celebrated the fifth year of the festival. There was all kinds of food available, from cheesecakes to jerk tacos, from Chicago-style hot dogs to hot fish, authentic African cuisine and everything in between, so no one walked away hungry.
The event is hosted by Vansauwa’s Tacos and Vegan Eats and Zirconia Vansauwa says they were thrilled with the turnout, with hundreds of folks making their way downtown Friday and Saturday, despite the heat.
She says it means a lot to see people come out in support, especially amidst the Emancipation Day celebrations, and they were glad to be able to celebrate Black culture and spirit during a day that is important to so many locals.
Vansauwa says they’ll keep this festival going for as long as the people want to celebrate good food and good folks, and they’re always looking for new activities to keep things fun and fresh.
Along with the food, they had trivia, live music, a DJ, line dancing, beverages, vendors and more. So, if you did miss out on the fun this time around, don’t worry, because Taste of the Town will be back next year, even bigger.
