A Vietnam War hero and a former “Screaming Eagle” will soon be inducted into the Fort Campbell Division’s Medal of Honor Rotunda.
The ceremony will be host on behalf of the Division command team in the atrium of the 101st Airborne Division Air Assault Headquarter on Fort Campbell, bringing in leaders, friends and families from across Fort Campbell. They’ll be recognizing Kenneth David as the 22nd inductee.
The 75-year-old David is a resident Giard, Ohio, and was drafted in the Army in 1969, where he then received basic training at Fort Campbell.
In May 1970, while serving in Vietnam, then Private First Class David was a radio-telephone operator with the 101st Airborne Division when his unit came under enemy attack. In a display of extreme courage, David handed off his radio and charged the enemy line, drawing fire away from his wounded comrades and a medevac helicopter. Though wounded himself, he continued to fight with hand grenades after running out of ammunition, refusing to retreat and embodying what was later described as “gallantry and intrepidity above and beyond the call of duty.”
On January 23, 2025, David was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor by President Joe Biden during a White House ceremony, recognizing his extraordinary heroism.
The induction ceremony will take place at 4 p.m. on Tuesday.
