Federal funding has been approved through the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration to help fight opioid addiction in the state.
According to a news release from U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell’s Office, the funding is through the State Opioid Response Grant program, and it will be used to expand the Recovery Housing Program, which was created by Senator McConnell’s Comprehensive Addiction and Recovery through Effective Employment and Reentry (CAREER) Act in 2018.
That program is designed as a transitional housing pilot program to help increase access to safe housing for individuals who are participating in addiction recovery. Its purpose is to help them beat addiction and re-enter the workforce. Since becoming law, the CAREER Act has directed nearly $12.5 million to the Commonwealth, helping hundreds of Kentuckians recovering from substance use disorder.
This federal funding will be allocated to the Commonwealth of Kentucky which the state then distributes to programs across the Commonwealth that help prevent, reduce, and treat opioid abuse.
