After a week of pleasant weather, severe storms possible this weekend

Hopefully you took the time to prepare during Fall Severe Weather Awareness Week—because the potential for severe weather is in the forecast for the area this weekend.

After weeks and weeks of sunny skies and warm weather, fall-time cold fronts will begin pushing their way across the country, and one of those is lined up to come into our region Saturday morning and into the evening.

Forecaster Rachel Trevino with the National Weather Service in Paducah says a lot is up in the air right now, but severe weather is certainly possible if everything were to align.

All hazards would be on the table with this event, including large hail, damaging winds and tornadoes, but Trevino says there’s still a lot of details to be ironed out between now and Saturday, so stay weather aware.

Rain will be the mostly likely outcome of this cold front, and it could be heavy at times.

Trevino says there’s some evidence to suggest that these pulses of cold fronts into our warmer conditions will continue into the 8-to-14-day time range, which could indicate that our Fall Severe Weather season is finally arriving.
