The Christian County Literacy Council crowned a new group of kiddos for their spelling skills at Tuesday’s fifth annual spelling bee.
Council Executive Director Francene Gilmer shared that 13 students competed in the elementary school division and 10 students competed in the middle school division.
In the elementary division, Zuraib Iqbal won first place, Zoraiz Iqbal won second place and Kennadie Alvin won third place. All the winners are from South Christian Elementary School.
In the middle school division Avishi Shah from University Heights Academy won first place, Charlie Toliver from Christian County Middle School won second place and Maanya Patel from University Heights Academy won third place.
The winners were awarded certificates, medals, cash prizes and tokens to get books from the ATMOS Literary Launcher Book Vending Machine at the Hopkinsville-Christian County Convention and Visitors Bureau.
Gilmer says it takes a lot of courage to walk up on the stage and is grateful to see students take on the challenge.
