Police arrest Hopkinsville man for assaulting a man with a hammer

Hopkinsville Police arrested 50-year-old Jason Render of Hopkinsville after he reportedly hit another man with a hammer multiple times on Wednesday.

When officers arrived at the scene on East 7th Street, Render and the victim were fighting over the hammer, and officers were able to retrieve it. Render was detained and reportedly told officers that the victim had mental health issues and was making up scenarios in his head and “tormenting” their mother.

Render reportedly told officers that he got tired of the victim’s behavior, which led to him hitting them with a hammer. The victim suffered a large laceration to the back of the head and appeared to have a broken knuckle.

Render was charged with first-degree assault.
