Christian Fiscal Court had their regular meeting later in the day on Tuesday, where they heard from officials with the Salvation Army and approved the budget for the Christian County Sheriff’s Department.
The budget for the Sheriff’s Officer Fiscal Year 2026 budget was approved on first-reading, and it includes moving deputies to hazardous retirement, which has been a goal for the fiscal court for some time. Christian County Sheriff Tyler DeArmond thanked the magistrates for the approval, saying the deputies here are amongst the best in the state and this has been needed.
Magistrates also approved an agreement with EVAPAR for generator maintenance with Christian County Emergency Management and declares some items from the Sheriff’s Office as surplus.
Magistrates also heard from the Salvation Army of Hopkinsville, as they look to build a new Life Navigation Center that would bring their services under one roof, and relocate a few blocks away.
Kentucky and Tennessee Senior Divisional Resource Development Director Chris Head presented the idea to the Fiscal Court, saying they’ve been gifted some land to build on, and this would allow them to better serve and connect with those in need.
Head says they’re looking at a price tag of at least $8 million to make this a reality, and they’ve already raised $3 million of that goal.
No formal requests for funding were made to Fiscal Court at Tuesday’s meeting, and there’s no current timeline for the project as the Salvation Army continues to fund
