With Christmas just days away, The Salvation Army of Hopkinsville is asking the community to help ensure no child is forgotten this holiday season.
This year’s Angel Tree program has served one of the largest numbers of children in recent years, leaving many angels still waiting to be chosen.
Those who selected an angel are asked to return unwrapped gifts as soon as possible, so items can be prepared for distribution. The Salvation Army reports that their greatest needs include clothing for children from newborn through size 12, toys for infants through age two and gifts for children ages 10 to 12.
Angel Tree gift distribution will take place on Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.. For many children, these may be the only presents they receive this Christmas.
Red Kettles remain at retail locations in Hopkinsville through Christmas Eve, and the funds raised will support programs such as food assistance, shelter and emergency aid. Volunteer bellringers are still needed and can sign up at RegisterToRing.com.
Donations can also be made online at salvationarmyhopkinsville.org, or by mail to The Salvation Army of Hopkinsville at P.O. Box 427, Hopkinsville, KY 42240.
Lt. David Donegan, corps officer of The Salvation Army of Hopkinsville, says that behind every angel is a child hoping someone will show up for them, and he hopes community members step up to support their mission.
