CCSO puts out notice about property tax deadlines

If you haven’t paid your property taxes in Christian County yet, your time to do so without facing some kind of penalty is fast running out, especially if you pay in person.

The Christian County Sheriff’s Office, where residents pay their property taxes in person, on West Seventh Street is only open Wednesday and Thursday of this week, before closing again on Friday. Public Information Officer Chris Miller says those also happen to be some of the final days remaining where you can pay just the face value of your property tax—starting January 1, it will carry a five percent penalty.

You can pay online up until December 31, but the Sheriff’s Office will be closed December 29 through December 31.

Miller says they’re encouraging people to get those taxes squared away before the turn of the year, to avoid any penalties.

More information about property taxes, how to pay either in person or online, what payment options are available and more, can be found on the Christian County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page and website.

The five percent penalty collections dates start on January 1 and run through the end of that month—starting on February 1 through April 15, you’ll see a 21 percent penalty on your tax bill.
