Details released in home invasion, shooting in Hopkins County

The Hopkins County Sheriff’s Department has released more details on a home invasion last week that resulted in the intruder shot.

The homeowner has been identified as 81-year-old Van Williams of Madisonville, who has since been released from the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, while the suspect who was shot has been identified as 52-year-old William Hendrix of Morton’s Gap.

Hendrix remains in the hospital with critical injuries.

Preliminary investigation has determined that Hendrix forced himself in the home of Williams in the 600 block of Fowler Road in Madisonville, where a struggle ensued. That’s when Hendrix was reportedly shot by Williams. It’s believed both the homeowner and suspect knew each other.

Charges are pending, due to the severity of Hendrix’s injuries.
