CCPS Superintendent talks weather plans, hopes for General Assembly

Now that the new year is well underway, that means the second half of the school year is also underway for Christian County students and the Superintendent says they’re off to a good start.

CCPS Superintendent Chris Bentzel says they’re really pushing the importance of attendance, saying students can’t learn if they’re not present, and so far, the attendance rate has been picking back up since returning from winter break.

With cold temperatures and the threat of snow lingering in the region, Bentzel urges people to stay tuned to the local weather reports and keep an eye on the CCPS social media accounts, in the event they have to make a call regarding school closures.

They’re keeping a close eye on the Kentucky General Assembly, where items such as universal pre-k and teacher pay raises are hot topics up for consideration this year—Bentzel says they are very hopeful the increased funding for pay raises happens, because their staff deserves it.

Bentzel says they gotten some good interest in bus driver positions, and on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week they’ll be hosting free CDL training for those looking to start a new career.
