To support community members fighting cancer, Christian County Relay for Life is preparing to kick-off its 34th fundraising campaign with a pancake breakfast this weekend.
Relay for Life is a nonprofit dedicated to supporting local individuals fighting cancer and their families during the treatment and recovery process. The nonprofit provides funding for cancer research, rides to appointments, Hope Lodge stays and wigs for those undergoing chemotherapy. Last year’s campaign raised over $70,000, and over the past 33 years, Relay Committee Member Pam Futrell says they have raised over $3 million.
The pancake breakfast will be at Hillcrest Baptist Church at 920 Skyline Drive on Saturday from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. It will cost $7 for a plate of pancakes and sausages and folks will be able to get to-go plates. Futrell says the breakfast is also a chance for people to learn more about Relay for Life’s mission.
The theme of this year’s fundraising campaign is “Wild for a Cure,” and Futrell says they are planning on hosting the relay at the Hopkinsville Sportsplex in August. Those interested in forming walking teams for the relay can call Futrell at 270-498-1778 or visit Christian County Relay for Life on Facebook.
