Christian County School Board adds AI harassment to code of conduct

The Christian County School Board voted to add AI harassment as an unacceptable behavior to the district’s code of conduct and made progress toward establishing athletic fields at the consolidated Christian County High School at Thursday’s meeting.

To start the meeting, board members recognized the Millbrooke Elementary School Academic Team for winning first place overall at the Regional Academic Tournament.

Turning toward AI, the code of conduct amendment comes after inappropriate AI-generated images depicting minors were reportedly distributed at a Christian County public school. The incident was reported to Hopkinsville Police on February 18.

District Communications Director Johnna Brown says students who get in trouble distributing inappropriate AI images can be referred to Bluegrass Learning Academy. If AI is used to create explicit images of other students, Brown says that would be considered child pornography, and law enforcement will get involved.

Construction continues on schedule at the consolidated CCHS, and board members approved multiple items to build an outdoor restroom facility and athletic fields at the school. Brown says the board accepted a bid package for the construction of soccer, baseball and softball fields, bleachers, an outdoor athletic restroom facility, fencing and electrical connections, totaling around $8.4 million.

Then, the board approved seven change orders for the new school, largely focusing on athletics. The orders include the construction of a band tower, athletic field drainage revisions and connecting the outdoor restroom facility to a water line. Brown says the change orders cost around $300,030.
