To honor the late Brandon Oldham, United Southern Bank launched an academic scholarship in his memory and invite student athletes to apply.
Oldham served as the branch manager and the loan officer at the bank’s Canton Pike location before he passed away at the age of 41 in a motorcycle accident in September 2025. Oldham was a 2002 graduate of Christian County High School, and in January he was inducted into the school’s athletic hall of fame for basketball and track.
Bank President and CEO Billy Bingham says he and Oldham worked together for around 10 years and during that time they became good friends and he even spoke at his funeral.
Bank Human Resources Director Martha Steil says Oldham had a big heart and truly cared about his coworkers and customers. She also shared that he was passionate about mentoring local youth through athletics and supporting the young adults who worked at the bank.
The bank is offering two $1,000 scholarships to high school seniors who participate in athletics and attend a Christian County Public School. Steil says applicants are required to have at least a 3.0 GPA, provide a letter of recommendation and submit a 500-word essay sharing what they have learned as an athlete that they can apply to their future.
The scholarship application is available at usbky.com and the submission deadline is April 3. However, Steil says they can make exceptions for applicants who are waiting for a letter of recommendation.
