Jacqueline Coleman announces bid to be Kentucky’s next governor

Kentucky now has it’s first candidate to be the Commonwealth’s next governor, after current Lt. Governor Jacqueline Coleman declared that she will run to fill the seat.

Coleman has spent that last six years as lieutenant governor to Governor Andy Beshear, but the end of his term is fast approaching, and she highlighted her Kentucky roots, her time in both the classroom and the basketball court, and what she calls a common sense approach to problems facing the Commonwealth.

She says, “I spent the last two years meeting with Kentuckians, asking them what they are looking for in their next governor. It’s crystal clear: they want someone who will show up, listen and focus on the issues that truly matter to their families. Not someone who is distracted by the culture war of the day. A governor who will continue to fight for Kentuckians and against the chaos and toxic negativity coming out of Washington, D.C. If you’re looking for somebody to talk less about politicians and more about you, for someone who listens more than they talk, here she is.”

Coleman received a master’s degree in political science from the University of Louisville, and is currently completing a doctorate at the University of Kentucky. She has experience as both an educator and a basketball coach, saying education is very important to her.

With the end of Governor Beshear’s final term quickly approaching, Coleman’s announcement will likely not be the last announcement for governor.
