University Heights Academy’s baseball team warmed up for the final week of the regular season with a pair of victories Saturday at the Fayette County Invitational.
In the opening game Saturday, Cadence Gibson drove in four runs, the biggest on a hit-by-pitch that scored Jaiden Miles in the top of the eighth inning that helped the No. 3-ranked Blazers defeat host Lexington Tates Creek 12-11.
AJ Hogart and Aiden Jones both went 3-for-5 and Hayden Hunt added a single and triple for the Blazers. Jackson Flynn also had a pair of hits and Thomas Hallmark slammed a double.
In the second game Saturday, UHA jumped out to a 6-0 lead on No. 24-ranked Scott County after five innings. Hunt and Gibson teamed to toss a one-hitter through the first five innings.
The Blazers gave some of their younger players a chance for some varsity time the final two innings and held on for a 7-4 victory.
Hunt homered and singled and Hogart and Flynn each had a double and single with Flynn also adding 3 RBI. Josh Pace went 3-for-3 including a triple.
UHA improved to 26-4 on the season and is scheduled to play at South Warren today.
