The United Way of the Pennyrile announced that Amy and Derrick Watson will serve as co-chairs of the nonprofit’s 2026-27 fundraising campaign.
The United Way hosts annual campaigns to support nonprofits serving Christian, Todd and Trigg Counties. Funds raised in this year’s campaign will support more than 32 programs provided by 15 nonprofits.
Amy Watson is a retired broadcast journalist whose career spanned 35 years. She retired from News Channel 5 in Nashville in 2024 after spending nearly 20 years at the television news station. Then, Derrick Watson retired from his position as the President of Hopkinsville Water Environment Authority after serving the company for 28 years.
On Monday, the pair announced that the theme of this year’s campaign is “Making Headlines, Making a Difference,” with the slogan, “You are the Story.”
The campaign starts in July, and the local United Way will host its campaign kick-off breakfast on September 3 at 7:30 a.m. Last year’s campaign raised $800,292.
