A local student is about to have a once-in-a-life time experience, as Cheyenne Peterson from Pembroke was one of 250 chosen across the country as a winner of the National America250 Contest.
America’s Field Trip hosted to competition, calling on students across the country between grades 3 and 12 to answer the question, “What does America mean to you?” through original writing and artwork. Thousands of students took part from all 50 states, five United States territories and the District of Columbia.
Of those entries, Peterson, the daughter of Karen and Phillip Peterson, was among the 250 awardees, and was one of the 125 first-place awardees, receiving an America250 Field Trip. Now, she’ll get to travel to Washington, D.C. for a behind-the-scenes trip that will showcase the White House, the National Archives and the offices of Congressman James Comer.
Her entry was a stunning water color painting of the United States, highlighting different states and their history and culture that make up the beauty of the country.
That’s not all Peterson is celebrating, as she was recently named the first-ever Kentucky 4-H Science, Engineering and Technology Program Area Champion. Christian County 4-H highlighted the achievement, saying that Peterson has demonstrated leadership through service on the State Teen Council SET Committee, involvement with the SET Leadership Board, development of forensics day camps, participation in drone programming, and more.
