It’s going to be big in Hopkinsville for America’s 250th birthday, as Hopkinsville Parks and Recreation is partnering with the Western Kentucky State Fair to bring a real celebration to the city.
It’s all set for the Fourth of July, which is also City of Hopkinsville Day at the fair, where the governmental agencies will have booths at the fair and the Red, White and Ooooh booth will open at the pavilion at 4 p.m. thaty day. There will be live music starting at 6 p.m. with Hoptown Idol winner Tony Hawkins and then the tractor pulls will start in the grandstands at 7 p.m.
More live music with Sugar Lime Blue starts at 7:15 p.m. followed by Donald McGray performing patriotic songs at 8:30 p.m. Then, around 9 p.m., the big fireworks show will start and Programs Coordinator Jacob Gibson says it will take place at DeBow Recreational Complex.
While there will be parking available at Debow, Superintendent Toby Hudson says the park itself and immediate surrounding area will be closed to the public starting that Friday, to keep folks out of the fallout zone.
The fireworks will start sometime between 9 p.m. and 9:15 p.m. with Hudson saying it will start during a break in the tractor pulls, so you might get there a little early to claim your watching spot.
While admission to the fair is $3, there will be plenty of places to watch nearby as well, with the show completely free to attend. Hudson says this show is going to be a big one—the biggest fireworks show they’ve hosted so far.
